Drawing Final Exam:
1. How do you describe your artistic style/perspective? How do you define success as an artist? What do you find most rewarding about being an artist? What are some of the most important skills you draw upon to create your work? What are some of the most significant things you've learned through art-making?
I would describe my artistic style as painting and drawing in a realistic style. I have painted in oil for a couple of years and have really enjoyed working with it as a medium. It takes a while to dry but it's easy to blend colors. I also draw using prismacolored pencils. I would define success as an artist would be achieving and growing as an artist. You have grown in different areas and developed new techniques. As an artist I find growing talent and developing my skills is most rewarding. Like looking back at my old artwork and comparing it to my new pieces it rewards me to see the growth in between. Skills I draw upon to create my art is being able to see shapes, colors, highlights, shadows and textures in the reference photo and being apply those techniques to the painting. The most significant things that I learned through art was how to paint eyes, fur, smooth textures, faces, glass, landscapes and I learned better techniques with blending and showing textures with prismacolors.

2. Look at your body of work over the semester and choose 2 pieces that show your growth as an artist. Discuss each piece and how you grew in the following areas: application of materials, techniques and skills, artistic vision, use of the principles and elements, creativity, intuition and subject matter.
The two pieces I have looked at to see my growth over this semester is my perspective drawing and my self-portrait drawing. In the perspective drawing I drew a goat looking off to the right with the sun hitting the goat's back and head. In this drawing I showed the different value changes and pulled different colors into other areas to make my goat look at a realistic as possible. I also accomplished a great amount of texture in this drawing. I used light short strokes to show the texture and did it in the direction of where the fur was going. In the white areas of the fur I didn't leave it all fully white, I pulled colors such as blue, red and brown to show it was a dirty white and to make my drawing pop. In my second piece, the self-portrait drawing, I drew myself in shattered glass. I had glass pieces over my face and drew my facial features in there to connect them together and create another face. Through this project I have grown in texture, values and I have really grown in being able to draw all the facial features successfully. Between these two pieces you can see the growth of how I expanded my creativity and expanded my mind into create a successful piece.

3. Reflect on what your portfolio (all work you created through semester) may not reveal about the semester. Do you think the work in your portfolio is an accurate reflection of your development in the class?
I think I have grown as an artist and have improved my artistic skills not only just in this semester, but as an artist too. I have developed new skills throughout this semester and I have learned new techniques when creating successful pieces. The main mediums I use regularly are oil paint and prismacolored pencils and through this semester I have learned how to make a contour drawing, I have learned techniques on using chalk pastels, and have created a successful piece with a scratch board. Through this semester I have opened my artistic skills and have opened my mind to thinking outside the box. My main style is realistic but I have incorporated some abstract features in my pieces throughout this semester. Like with my self-portrait I had shattered glass pieces across my face and included more facial features in there. The final piece turned out to look like me along with some abstract designs. Also in this semester I accomplished my best colored eye drawing with my self-portrait. Even with the small details in my final drawings I have definitely grown as an artist.

4. Discuss on project where you felt you were the least successful. Explain why you felt this way. What would you do differently to change this piece? Explain.
The project that I felt was the least successful was the contour room drawing. This project was one of the hardest drawings I had to draw because I wasn't able to lift up my pen from the paper. In this project I had to draw the classroom. I kept wanting to sketch the room instead of drawing fine lines to outline the room. I also didn't like this drawing because there was a lot of detail in the room and I had to try and show some textures along with not lifting up the pen. If I was to redo this drawing I would not rush as much as I did. I would instead take my time and trace the room very carefully. I would also maybe pick a different place in the room to draw with less objects and then that way I can try and include more texture in some of the objects. I also think that if I did more practice contour drawings, I would be more successful with this project.
