Watercolor Painting:
1. What watercolor techniques proved to be effective in your painting? How and Why? The wash, wet on wet and bleed was the most effective techniques used in my painting. I used a light wash to everything in my painting so I could add on each value change in its highlights and shadows. The bleed and wet on wet was very effective when I painted my leaves because it helped bring out the values and it created depth.
2. How important was using transparent layers in your painting?
It was very important to use transparent layers in my painting because it helped make my painting not so bold and stand out. Using transparent layers made my painting feel light and soft rather than bold. It made it easier to add the lights where they needed to go than trying redo it.
3. Explain how your composition was successful? Did you utilize all the elements of art and principals of design? Explain.
My composition was successful because I was able to better understand how to use watercolor properly and use more techniques for my painting. I used all the elements of art and principles of design. In some places on my painting I didn't use some of my space properly and I could have added some more textures in more places. The proportion in the background could have been done differently. I showed movement throughout my painting from emphasizing the big sunflower and showing the balance to the other two sunflowers.
4. Was color choice an important factor in the overall success of the painting? Why?
Color choice was an important factor in succeeding my painting because I had to figure out how to blend some colors together and adding the highlights and shadows. With the petals I tried to make the petals to a similar color including yellow, orange, yellow ochre and some brown. Doing the leaves were a little harder with color because there's so many shades of green and different types that I had to make sure I was using the right one and making the color green in my reference photo.
5. Describe your craftsmanship?
My craftsmanship in this painting would be best described as me using water color pencils because I felt like I had more control with the colors added onto my painting with the pencils rather than the paint. I have used prismacolors in drawing more than doing watercolor so I had better control with blending, shading and knowing how hard to press my pencil onto the paper. I have succeeded in blending and the usage of my colors in this painting and I am very happy with the outcome.
6. If you were able to do something different what would it be and why?
I would go back and fix the background because compared to the flowers in my painting its a little unproportional and I don't like how I used the watercolor do the sunflower field. I would as more dots of green and yellow and then blot it, so the colors would blend together. Also I would have showed less of the sky or not at all because in my reference photo the field was getting smaller as it got far back.
7. Explain to me what you have learned about water color and how it has improved or discouraged your development in art.
When we used watercolor for the fruit and veggie project, it was my first time using watercolor and so I got more frustrated and discouraged because I didn't understand how to properly use watercolor and include different techniques, but when we went onto the final project that helped me better succeed. I learned to use very soft transparent layers and to get brighter, bolder colors I needed to keep adding layers. I also learned that it is very easy for colors to mix together. When I was struggling I didn't like watercolor but now that I've learned techniques and better comprehended how to use watercolor I love it!

Hundertwasser Painting:
1. Describe the craftsmanship of your painting. (Is it neat and well executed?)
The craftsmanship of my painting was in the style of Hundertwasser and abstract elements. I had lots of solid lines to define the different shapes and spirals I included in my painting. In my hills I added different designs to give it an abstract feeling. Instead of gradient colors I had solid colors with different shades around my painting.
2. How does your work embody the artists style?
In my painting I included Hundertwasser's spirals on the tree and I used similar detail in my hills, tree and sun. I had made a wavy border with lots of bright colors to bring my painting forward. Also in his style I had used lots of bold defining lines to separate different objects and color shades.
3. Describe your choice of colors/color harmonies and how you used them throughout the artwork.
My choice of colors used in my painting was warm colors. I used a lot of red, orange, yellow, pink and some brown. I also used some nice cool colors blue, purple and green to make my painting well balanced. Overall my painting turned out to be very bright, warm and happy.
4. What is the emphasis(focal point) of your artwork?
The emphasis of my artwork was my sunset. I used lots of bright, warm colors which is where my eye is drawing to whenever I look at my painting. The rest of my painting like the darker part of my sky, hills, water and grassy field gravitate around it.
5. How did you used textures and patterns to embellish your artwork?
I used spirals to show the way my painting was moving and give it a flowing feeling. With my hills I added different patterns in each section to make my hills feel like their rolling over and into the water. In the water I made abstract boxes with different solid shades of blue blending into the hills. The textures and patterns I used helped make my painting flow.
6. How did you put a border on your artwork? How does it enhance the work?
I first added wavy lines along the border breaking them up into sections. I then added different colors in each little section making sure the same color didn't touch and it made my border look like a bright, flowing pattern. It enhanced my work making my sunset the focal point. It also added more depth and made my painting stand out more because of the bright colors I used.
7. Describe any difficulties you had creating this artwork.
I had kept having trouble blending the colors together. One of the reasons why was because the paint kept drying fast and sometimes when I ran out of paint I would create a different shade of green or blue. The lesson I learned from this problem was that I before I add paint to my canvas I got to use good amount of paint well blended so I don't run out of it fast and it wont dry up on the canvas. I also had trouble with making my painting abstract and making my painting in the style of Hundertwasser.
